Summary post

This really didn't tell me anything new about the internet.
The stuff I didn't know - like the RSS - was because I deemed them to time consuming.

I found this exercise frustrating, the filters blocked most things and I didn't need it for my job.

If you offer this agaun, make sure people don't get blo0cked first!

Oh, and survey done.

Week 9

You-tube - a good time waster as you look at 'just one more.....'

I didn't even bother trying to access it at work as the stupid council filter would kick in.

I try really hard to stay away but sometimes I get sucked in. I was watching a video of a cat howling when one of ours came in the room, puffed up, hissing, then proceded to search for the in truder.

Library use - um book reviews, authors reading stories, short film contests.........
The possibilities are endless, say posting in conjunction with a wiki of recent library events.
You'd need consent though.

Podcasts - ok if you are someone who gets information by listening. I prefer to get news etc. by stories. Its helpful if you missed out on a lecture someone gave or, as a tutir of mine does, gives us tips on oral presentations.

E-books - ueful if you travel or have limited space. I've found I need to have info printed out in order to understand it. Online classes taught me that! & a book is eeasier to hold & cart around in my handbag, as well as smelling better.

Week 8

Well, I can see ow web based word processing programmes would be useful - especially for shared pc users or if a user frequently changed pcs.

I got frustrated wuth this programme as it kept freezing whenever I tried to use it. Not the council firewall but just freezing the pc for 10 mins.

After going on several word courses, I'll stick with this programme.

Week 7

This week is all about social networking sites. Not surprisingly, the council has blocked them, so I've decided to use my memory.
Bebo - yes I have a page though I don't check it regulary. A large number of Kiwis & Aussies use this, so it's useful for keeping track of people.
Facebook - growing in use among downunder people. I don't have a page thogh my sister bugs me to.
Myspace - popular among Americans but I don't spend time there.

These are useful to keep tabs on people but I prefer face to face contact.

Week 6

So, tags.
I went to the del'uncio site and clicked to follow tags, then clicked again then again then again....
It's very easy to get sidetracked but on the plus side - no filters stopped me!!!

This could be useful on shared computers, where a tag could bookmark useful sites o check out.

Week 5

So Wikis - well I don't really trust them as any yahoo can create an account & post info.
They're good for quickly looking up info though.

I like how a group can posst stuff such as times of metings, links to other subjects, reviews of books etc... A library could easily create one & keep it updated, while encouraging patrons to post about their xperiences etc.....

A major drawback is the site may be blocked by work pcs.

Week 4

Well, had a look around Flikr (when I wasn't being blocked by the council) and found a few cool images. I especially like this one - it's of Viggo Mortensensen as Aragorn - http://www.flickr.com/photos/23942175@N06/2305808396/

I don't have a working digital camera to take photos with, just a mobile that you can upload pictues from, but is a hassle to do.

Tags are like subject headings, if you close an eye and squint hard! There's a list of the most popular available on the Flikr site.

Not sure why some pages were blocked while others from the same searccch loaded straight away.
